School Bowls

School Bowls is a national pathway for primary and secondary students to; learn, play, and enjoy the sport of lawn bowls.

The Let’s Play Bowls (LPB) committee - comprising experienced teachers, bowlers, and parents - developed this initiative to introduce students to the game through engaging and inclusive ‘inter-school’ competitions.

Program Overview

School Bowls is delivered during Term 2 and Term 4, offering students the opportunity to learn new skills, participate in friendly competition and enjoy bowls in a fun and supportive environment.

Who Can Participate?

  • Primary School Bowls: Year 4 - 6 students

  • Snr School Bowls: Year 7- 11 students

Program Features

  • Free team registration

  • All equipment supplied

  • A safe, non-contact sport that is fun to play

  • Skill development in an inclusive environment

  • Age-appropriate ‘inter-school’ competitions

Students develop confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship while representing their school in a positive and enjoyable setting.

Primary School Competition

The Primary competition is designed for Year 5 and Year 6 students, with provision for one lower-grade student per team (refer to Rules).

  • Format: Modified ‘sets-play’

  • Entries close: Last day of Term 2

During Term 3 (July - August) participating clubs assist schools in identifying their strongest team(s) to progress to the Final Series.

The Primary Final Series is held in October (Week 2, Term 4) at selected host venues.

Each District/Region hosts up to 12 teams (see Format & Rules).

School sport organisers, Stage 3 teachers, and parents are encouraged to contact their local bowling club to arrange:

  • Weekly school sport programs

  • Class visits

  • After-school coaching and training

Secondary School Competition

The Secondary competition is an ‘inter-school’ event coordinated through school sport organisers.

  • Entries close: Last day of Term 2

  • Entry method: Via this website (High School Entries – ‘Enter Here’)

  • Team entries: Unlimited

  • During Term 3, participating clubs work with schools to identify representative teams for the Final Series.

The Secondary Final Series is held in October (Week 2, Term 4) at selected host venues.

Each District/Region hosts up to 12 teams (see Format & Rules).

Schools are invited to partner with their local bowling club to establish:

  • Regular school sport sessions

  • After-school coaching and development programs

  • School sport organisers are invited to contact their local bowling club (Bowls Committee) to arrange a weekly school sport period and / or 'after-school’ coaching and training.
